Cobb County is set to host the annual Make-A-Wish Georgia 5K on Saturday, October 4. The event aims to support local children with critical illnesses by raising funds to grant their wishes.

This year, there are 43 children in Cobb County waiting for their wishes to be fulfilled. These wishes range from travel experiences to meeting personal heroes and rely on community support. Funds raised during the event will go directly to Make-A-Wish Georgia.

The race will take place at Marietta Square. Pre-race festivities begin at 7:20 a.m., and the race starts at 8:00 a.m. Walk-up registration is available from 6:30 to 7:20 a.m.

Participants in the Make-A-Wish Georgia 5K can also use this event as a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta.

“We are proud to once again partner with Cobb County for the 20th annual Make-A-Wish Georgia 5K,” said Tim Earley, CEO of Make-A-Wish Georgia. “This event is more than just a run. It’s a celebration of community, and together we are helping to grant the wishes of children battling critical illnesses right here in Cobb County.”

Cobb County schools saw an enrollment increase of less than 0.1% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). The total number of students enrolled was reported at 115,076 for that academic period (https://www.gadoe.org/). Among these students, white students represented about one-third of the student body (https://www.gadoe.org/).

For those interested in participating or learning more about supporting critically ill children through this event, information and registration details can be found at https://www.cobbcounty.gov/public-safety/make-wish-5k.
