Kennesaw State University has received notification from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) that its Fifth-Year Interim Report has been accepted. This acceptance is part of the university’s ongoing accreditation process, which includes a full reaffirmation every 10 years and an interim review at the five-year mark. KSU’s most recent reaffirmation was in 2019, and the interim report was submitted in March 2025.

The Office of Academic Excellence at Kennesaw State led the preparation and submission of the report, with contributions from more than 100 individuals across campus. The SACSCOC review committee, made up of administrators, faculty, and staff from peer institutions, described KSU’s report as clear and well-organized.

“The positive outcome from our Fifth-Year Interim Report reflects the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff, and leadership across KSU,” said Kennesaw State President Kathy S. Schwaig. “It affirms our commitment to continuous improvement and academic excellence, and I’m proud of the collaborative effort that made this possible.”

The interim report assessed compliance with 23 standards covering areas such as administration, faculty qualifications, student achievement, educational programs, support services, financial resources, and institutional transparency. During its review, SACSCOC requested clarification regarding whether KSU employs enough full-time faculty to meet its mission. In response, KSU provided data broken down by educational program.

Looking ahead, Kennesaw State will begin preparing for its next reaffirmation with SACSCOC in fall 2025; this process will culminate in a submission due September 2028 for a decision in 2029. The university’s new strategic plan—“Taking Flight”—serves as a framework to align priorities with accreditation requirements.

“Moving forward, the accreditation team plans to find meaningful ways to incorporate accreditation expectations into our business processes which will further support student success and our pursuit of national prominence,” said Associate Vice Provost and SACSCOC Liaison Leigh Funk.

In addition to maintaining compliance with SACSCOC standards, KSU is monitoring developments related to the new Commission for Public Higher Education (CPHE), an accrediting agency formed by seven states including Georgia’s University System (USG). Any changes involving CPHE are expected after the upcoming SACSCOC reaffirmation cycle.

KSU’s Office of Academic Excellence continues to oversee institutional accreditation efforts and quality improvement initiatives across campus units.
