Kennesaw State University honors top faculty at annual Apex Awards

Kennesaw State University recognized its leading researchers at the Apex Awards on Wednesday. The annual event, organized by the Office of Research since 2023, honors individuals from each of KSU’s nine academic colleges for their achievements in research over the past year.

Executive Vice President for Research Karin Scarpinato stated, “Apex signifies the highest point, the summit. It is with this spirit that we acknowledge the exemplary accomplishments of those whose work not only advances knowledge within their fields but also impacts our community and improves everyone’s lives.”

The awards highlighted contributions across a range of disciplines including sciences, engineering, education, business, social sciences, humanities, and arts. The selected researchers were chosen by leadership from each college.

This year’s honorees include Sohyun An, Johari Harris, and Lateefah Id-Deen from Bagwell College of Education; Divesh Sharma, Dana Hermanson, and Brian Rutherford from Coles College of Business; Sanjeev Adhikari, Minsoo Baek, and Giovanni Loreto from College of Architecture and Construction Management; Autumn Eckman, Jeremy Speed-Schwartz, and Jacqueline Springfield from Geer Family College of the Arts; Taeyeong Choi, Rifatul Islam, and Mahmut Karakaya from College of Computing and Software Engineering; Timothy Faver, Chetan Dhital, and Todd Pierson from College of Science and Mathematics; Kristin Horan, Brandon Lundy, and Tom Rotnem from Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Beibei Jhang, Jayhyun Kwon, and Muhammad Hassan Tanveer from Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology; Robert Buresh, Nalani Butler, and Chinomso Nwozichi from Wellstar College of Health and Human Services.

According to Scarpinato: “It is with this spirit that we acknowledge the exemplary accomplishments of those whose work not only advances knowledge within their fields but also impacts our community and improves everyone’s lives.”

The Apex Awards aim to foster intellectual curiosity among faculty members while recognizing research that has an impact both within academic circles and in broader society.
