Thirty-six communities in Georgia will receive over $36.2 million in federal funding through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, according to an announcement from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by DCA.

Of the total amount, $32.2 million is allocated for infrastructure projects, while $3.9 million will support various building initiatives across the selected communities. The CDBG program targets non-entitlement local governments, with a particular focus on rural areas of Georgia. Grants are awarded following a competitive evaluation process in which applications are scored and ranked based on merit.

“Community Development Block Grants allow rural Georgians to have access to resources that strengthen their infrastructure, enhance community facilities, and improve overall quality of life,” said Commissioner Nunn. “These grants ensure that local governments are given every opportunity to thrive. When our communities and facilities thrive, so do their citizens.”

DCA Director of Community Finance Kimberly Carter commented on the impact of the grants: “Community Development Block Grants are an important tool for Georgia’s communities to improve infrastructure. This year’s grantees will be able to use these awards to bolster their infrastructure and housing needs.”

The full list of 2025 CDBG award recipients can be found online at https://www.dca.ga.gov/local-government-assistance/community-development-block-grants-cdbg/annual-competition/awards.

The DCA works with communities throughout Georgia to promote economic development, affordable housing solutions, downtown development, and assistance for low- and moderate-income residents.
