The Georgia Department of Community Affairs announced on March 10 the launch of Georgia Rehoused, a new pre-application process for communities seeking funding to reduce unsheltered homelessness. The initiative aims to streamline how local organizations apply for state and federal housing funds by using a single pre-application to determine eligibility for various funding opportunities.

Georgia Rehoused is designed to help communities demonstrate how their proposals will address unsheltered homelessness. The department plans to distribute available funding through three award cycles, with the first cycle’s pre-application period closing on April 7 at 5:00 p.m. According to the announcement, this approach allows DCA staff to support applicants in meeting basic eligibility requirements and assess readiness before moving forward with full applications.

Christopher Nunn, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, said, “The Georgia Rehoused Grant is a new way to bring innovative and stable housing opportunities to Georgia. We are seeing creative housing solutions introduced across the country, and we know Georgia communities and local partners are ready to provide similar opportunities.”

To participate, all organizations must submit their pre-applications electronically through the designated portal and ensure that all required documentation is complete at submission. Only those who complete this step will be eligible for the subsequent competitive application round. Pre-applicants will receive recommendations from DCA staff either to proceed with a full application or undertake additional work to meet eligibility standards.

Key eligibility criteria include forming collaborative partnerships led by local governments that represent community interests, demonstrating how proposed funds will reduce unsheltered populations locally, and being registered in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). More details about requirements can be found on the Georgia Rehoused webpage.

Award notifications for successful applicants are anticipated during the week of June 6, following commission approval later in June. The department encourages interested parties with questions about the grant program to contact them via email.
