Kennesaw State University has appointed Eric Moyen as the new dean of the Clarice C. and Leland H. Bagwell College of Education, effective January 1. The announcement follows a national search for the position.

Moyen currently serves at Mississippi State University as an associate dean in the College of Professional and Continuing Studies, executive director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and professor of higher education leadership.

At Kennesaw State, Moyen will be responsible for leading more than 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students and over 300 faculty and staff within the Bagwell College. His role includes advancing research productivity and building partnerships with school districts.

“Dr. Moyen brings an inspirational vision and a deep commitment to educational leadership that will elevate the Bagwell College and KSU on our path to national prominence,” said KSU President Kathy S. Schwaig. “His passion for advancing teaching and learning, along with his collaborative spirit, will undoubtedly enhance the College’s influence both in our community and beyond.”

During his tenure at Mississippi State University, Moyen contributed to significant enrollment growth in Educational Leadership programs and improved research funding. He was involved in creating an online Doctor of Education program focused on P-12 leadership as well as developing Teacher-Leadership graduate programs. He also served as MSU’s first assistant vice president for student success, where he helped achieve record student persistence rates. Earlier in his career, Moyen worked at Lee University, where he received its highest faculty honor—the Excellence in Teaching Award—and has held various administrative roles during his 27 years in education.

“Dr. Moyen’s record of scholarship and his experience fostering a culture of academic innovation will strategically advance the Bagwell College of Education,” said KSU Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Ivan Pulinkala. “His collaborative approach to working with faculty and staff will strengthen programmatic excellence, support high-impact practices, and enhance student learning outcomes.”

In addition to administrative work, Moyen is active in research with several books published and participation in projects that have received more than $5 million in external funding. He has chaired six doctoral dissertation committees among many others.

“I am honored to join KSU and to provide leadership to the Bagwell College of Education,” said Moyen. “This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside exceptional faculty, staff, and students as we build on the College’s strong foundation and advance its reputation as a nationally recognized leader in educator preparation and research. I look forward to fostering partnerships and driving innovation that will positively impact education locally, regionally, and nationally.”

Moyen holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Kentucky, a Master’s degree in U.S. History from the University of Alabama, and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education from Taylor University.
