Families and community members gathered at Laurel Park in Marietta on Saturday for the Cobb County Drug Treatment Court’s Second Annual Summer BBQ. The event brought together program participants, graduates, staff, sponsors, and community partners to recognize recovery and progress. More than 80 people attended, enjoying activities such as games, face painting, basketball, sack races, and playground time. Some attendees relaxed by the lake.

The Marietta Metro Rotary Club sponsored the event by providing a catered barbecue and volunteering to serve food and help with activities. The Rotary Club has been a consistent supporter of the Cobb County Accountability Courts. A 2nd Chance Bail Bonds and Monitoring also volunteered and continues to support the program.

Judge Jason D. Marbutt, who oversees the program, said, “The Drug Treatment Court is more than an accountability program; it is a lifeline. Events like this remind our program participants that they are not alone and that recovery is a journey best walked with family, friends, and a supportive community.”

The Cobb County Drug Treatment Court offers people struggling with substance use the chance to rebuild their lives through counseling, support, and a structured program focused on lasting sobriety.

Program Coordinator Porsha Winfrey stated, “This event gives our program participants and graduates the chance to celebrate their progress with the people who matter most, their families. It also allows the community to see firsthand the incredible changes that are happening in the lives of those in our program.”

The event highlighted the program’s focus on healing and resilience. The Drug Treatment Court remains committed to partnerships that support participant success and stronger families.

Enrollment in Cobb County schools rose by less than 0.1% during the 2022-23 school year, totaling 115,076 students, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students made up 33% of the county’s student population during that year (https://www.gadoe.org/).
